Audio engineering both intimidated and (to a certain extent) bored me before beginning this class on music and audio. My eventual love for both was the biggest surprise for me in my growth as an instructional designer. For this project, we were given the visuals and had to research Pioneer Village to write our own scripts for the voiceovers. A key component was to bring the visuals to life through appropriate background music, sound effects, and vocal intonation.
My strategy for creating this video was one in which the script, narration, sound effects, music, and visuals all worked together to tell the story of Pioneer Village. You'll notice the music changes based on the mood of what is being described on the screen, and the sound effects give you a glimpse into what you don't see on the screen - children playing, a fire crackling in the fireplace, people laughing at a party, and more. Volume, panning, condenser dynamics, and equalization were all adjusted so that the experience is seamless and professional in quality.
